Prophet Saleh (AS) and the Miracle She-Camel
What happens when Allah sends a very special sign — and a whole community makes a promise about how to treat it? Meet Prophet Saleh (AS) and the people of Thamud, and discover why keeping our promises to Allah matters so much.
🌟 The People of Thamud
Qur’anLong ago, a people called Thamud lived in a rocky land, skillfully carving beautiful homes out of the mountains. Allah had blessed them richly, but many of them worshipped idols instead of Allah alone. So Allah sent them a prophet from among their own people — Saleh (AS).
Saleh (AS) was known among his people for his honesty and good character, even before he became a prophet. He gently called them to leave idol worship and turn back to Allah.
🐫 A Miracle Sign
Qur’anThe people of Thamud asked Saleh (AS) for a sign to prove he was truly a prophet. By Allah’s permission, a she-camel miraculously came out of solid rock! Allah tells us:
Saleh (AS) told his people to let the she-camel drink and graze freely, and never to harm her. This was a promise they made — a sign of their commitment to Allah after seeing His miracle with their own eyes.
💥 Breaking the Promise
Qur’anSadly, some of the people of Thamud did not keep their promise. A group among them plotted together and harmed the she-camel, even though Saleh (AS) had warned them clearly not to.
Saleh (AS) told them that because they broke their promise, a punishment would come. Just as he warned, a mighty blast overtook them, and only Saleh (AS) and the believers who kept their promise were saved.
