Prophet Hud (AS) and the Mighty People of ‘Ad
What happens when a whole nation becomes too proud to listen? The people of ‘Ad were famous for their strength and towering buildings — but their pride made them forget Allah. Let’s discover the story of Prophet Hud (AS), sent to guide them back to the truth.
🌟 A Powerful and Proud People
Qur’anLong ago, in a land known as Al-Ahqaf, lived a tribe of people called ‘Ad. They were remarkably strong and tall, and they built magnificent towers and buildings using their great strength and skill. Allah describes them in the Qur’an:
With all this strength and success, the people of ‘Ad began to feel too proud. They started worshipping idols instead of Allah, forgetting the One who had given them their gifts in the first place.
💬 Hud (AS) Calls His People
Qur’anAllah sent Hud (AS), a man from among the people of ‘Ad themselves, to remind them of the truth. He spoke to them with kindness and wisdom:
Hud (AS) reminded them of Allah’s blessings and asked them to seek istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness) and turn back to Him. But instead of listening, many of them let their kibr (pride — thinking too highly of oneself, and looking down on others or on the truth) get in the way.
🌬 The Mighty Wind
Qur’anThe people of ‘Ad boasted about their own strength, even asking, “Who is superior to us in strength?” Allah reminds us in the Qur’an that He who created them was far stronger than they were. When they continued to reject Hud’s (AS) message, Allah sent a powerful, roaring wind:
The wind swept through the land for many days, and the people who had rejected the truth were destroyed. Hud (AS) and the believers who trusted Allah were saved, exactly as Allah had promised.
