Message of the Prophet Muhammad

“Siwak cleans the mouth and makes Allah pleased with him.” (HR. Ahmad)

How to Siwak

The way to do siwak is to brush your teeth and gums starting from the right side of the mouth and then to the left.

The evidence that shows this is because of the habits of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam which are explained in the following hadith:

In the past, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam really liked to start on the right side when wearing sandals, combing his hair, washing himself, and in all his important matters.” (Muttafaqun ‘alaihi)

Scholars disagree about whether to hold siwak using the right hand or the left hand?

Responding to these differences of opinion, Shaikh Muhammad bin Salih al’Utsaimin Rahimullah concluded: That the difference between holding the siwak using the right hand or the left hand is a flexible and flexible matter. Please hold the siwak using your right or left hand. There is no clear and firm argument on this issue. (Asy Syarhu al Mumti’ ‘alaa Zaadil Mustaqni’)
