Rasulullah SAW’s message:

Abu Hurairah ra. reported, the Messenger of Allah said, Allah says: Mankind likes to criticize Me. He said: What an unfortunate time. Therefore, don’t say that. Because actually I am the one who created time. I’m the one who rotates day and night. If I want, I have the power to stop the change of both.

(HR. Muslim)

The act of blaspheming time is a habit of polytheists.

Polytheists often state that what destroys and harms them is time.

Allah Ta’ala strongly condemns the actions of these polytheists.

An Nawawi Rahimullah in Syarh Shohih Muslim (7/419) said that Arabs used to criticize the period (time) when they experienced various kinds of calamities.

For example, they experience death, senility, loss (damage) of property and so on.

When this disaster struck them, they spontaneously said, ‘Ya khoybah dahr’ (an expression of criticizing time) and other insulting remarks directed at time.
